Steven A. Bennett's incredibly terse Home Page

Hi!

Welcome to my home page. It's a bit terse right now and has no pictures, but that's okay, since at least one of the sub pages gets incredibly verbose instead, and a thousand words is worth a picture...

Wow is this way out of date. A long time ago in a galaxy far far away, or at least on an ISP (Fishnet -- www.pond.com) which went through a kajillion changes and which I no longer subscribe to, I had a website, that served me for quite a few years. It wasn't much, but it was home. And it contained a set of documents about an early MORPG (didn't qualify as "Massively Multiplayer" - just "Multiplayer") called the Kingdom of Drakkar, which to my amazement still has life today.

Anyway, this site disappeared from the face of the realm about a year before I dropped the Fishnet account due to one of those kajillion changes, and I didn't have a backup. Fortunately, the Internet Archive's Wayback Machine had a copy of it, which I retrieved in the middle of 2002. Good thing I did, because the Wayback Machine has since apparently lost all of the pages except the home page. So I've decided to put it up live again, mostly unmodified, for the minimal entertainment value it offers. The Drakkar pages are almost completely unchanged (only removed some Internet Archive added stuff which caused links to point to the no longer present pages on the Wayback Machine, and removed the mailto links to my no longer existant email address...), only this one has been rewritten.

Some quick background: I work (Really! Okay, on occation, at least...) at a small consulting firm called JMI Software Consultants doing contract programming. I used to be an avid Amiga owner, programmer, and user, but that's sadly done and over with now. (Seems like ancient history...) I've programmed with Windows, Mac OS, DOS, Amiga OS, UNIX, Linux, Idris, FLEX, and Mac OS X. I have to say that Mac OS X is by far my favorite, and Cocoa is by far the best programming API set I've ever used, bar none. At home I have Windows machines now used solely for games, a Linux machine setup as a PVR (using MythTV), and my primary machine, an Apple 12" PowerBook G4 running Mac OS X.

The main purpose in my having a home page is so I can put up other pages and links on topics I'm interested in. I have very strong interests in computer fields, ranging from computer gaming to computer music and graphics. I also spend a lot of my free time (hah!) reading science fiction and fantasy, playing tabletop and Live Action role playing games and board games, going to folk festivals, and dancing (mainly Contra dancing and English Country right now).

My favorite television show was Babylon 5, but alas that's no longer with us. Of the shows still on the air, my favorites are Angel, Jeremiah, and 24.

Click here to see Zgwortz's Kingdom of Drakkar site. This site is rather out of date as I no longer play Drakkar, or any other MMORPG for that matter (I played Everquest for a while, but successfully rehabilitated myself...). Links to other sites are probably no longer valid, and much of the info may no longer be applicable. But if you have an interest in Drakkar, check it out.
